My first snowshoeing experiences happened competing in the Badger State Games in Wisconsin as a kid. I dreamed about “forgetting” my snowshoes on the railroad tracks after getting my pants caught on the fence I was frantically trying to jump over, late to my mile track race. Humiliated and dangling upside down, I yelled for help and the ref held up the start to help me down. My own family was laughing too hard to help me! It took some years of cruising through the sparkly , crisp snow to overcome that embarrassment, but now I love both the solitude and competition that snowshoeing offers.
Avoid frostbite, place well in some Colorado races and perhaps compete at Nationals
